Feature
Let customers cancel their Shopify order before it ships
A customer who changes their mind ten minutes after checkout is cheaper to refund now than to ship, receive back, and restock later. BeforeShip lets customers cancel themselves — but only in the window you allow, before the warehouse starts.
Why self-serve cancel saves money
- No return shipping and no restocking labour.
- Fewer chargebacks from customers who couldn’t reach you in time.
- Fewer tickets — “please cancel my order” is one of the most common pre-ship emails.
How BeforeShip works
- Customer checks out. BeforeShip places a native Shopify fulfillment hold for the window you choose (default 2 hours).
- Customer self-serves. From their order status page they can fix the shipping address or phone, change quantity, add or remove items, swap a variant, or cancel.
- Documents update. The branded invoice PDF and packing slip regenerate after every change; the invoice number stays the same.
- Window closes. When time runs out — or packing starts — edits lock and the hold releases to your normal fulfillment flow.
Customers never see the name “BeforeShip” — everything carries your store’s branding.
Free for your first 100 orders. Same features on every plan.
Install BeforeShipYou stay in control
You set the window length. Once it closes or packing starts, the cancel button disappears. Orders outside the window go through your normal support process. Before cancelling, customers can also simply fix the problem instead — wrong size, wrong address — with an edit. Related: cancel before fulfillment, the operational guide.

FAQ
Can customers cancel a Shopify order themselves?
Shopify has no built-in customer self-cancel. BeforeShip adds a cancel option on the order status page during your edit window.
How long can customers cancel for?
You choose the window; the default is 2 hours after payment. Cancel locks automatically when the window ends or packing starts.
Is the customer refunded automatically?
The cancellation runs through Shopify’s standard order cancel, so refunds follow your store’s Shopify payment settings.
Can I offer edits instead of cancel?
Yes. In the same window customers can fix the address, change quantity, or swap a variant instead of cancelling.
Shoppers fix the address, swap a variant, or cancel — before it ships. Invoices and packing slips stay correct. Free for your first 100 orders.
