Address edits

Prevent wrong-address Shopify shipments with a pre-fulfillment edit window

· BeforeShip

A shopper pays, then notices the shipping address is wrong — a typo in the flat number, the office instead of home, or an old saved address. If the warehouse has already printed a label, you are looking at a failed delivery, a support thread, and often a reship. For many Shopify merchants, wrong-address shipments are one of the most expensive “small” mistakes in the post-purchase path.

The fix is not more apology templates. It is a short, merchant-controlled window after payment where the shopper can correct the shipping address or phone themselves — before packing starts.

What a wrong-address shipment really costs

Consider an illustrative scenario (not a study): a ₹2,499 order ships to the wrong pin code. Carrier return fees, a second label, packing time, and support email can easily wipe the margin on that order. Multiply that by a few incidents per week in peak season and the annual cost often exceeds what a focused pre-fulfillment app would charge.

Manual address changes from the admin work, but they do not scale. The shopper emails, someone finds the order, checks fulfillment status, edits the address, and hopes the packing slip and invoice still match. That race against the warehouse is where labels go out with stale data.

Shopify’s native limits after checkout

Shopify lets staff edit orders, but shoppers do not get a built-in, self-serve address editor with a merchant-set timer and a fulfillment hold. Without that, you either process as soon as paid — and eat wrong-address risk — or you invent hold-and-tag workflows that staff must remember under pressure.

What merchants need is simpler: after paid, hold the order for a window you choose; let the shopper fix address or phone; lock edits when the window ends or when packing starts; regenerate the documents the warehouse and the shopper actually use.

How a pre-fulfillment edit window prevents reships

Stop racing the warehouse on wrong-address emails. Install BeforeShip and give shoppers a clear window to fix shipping details before packing.

Where BeforeShip fits (v1 scope)

BeforeShip is a Shopify app focused on the pre-ship moment that causes most wrong-address pain: address and phone edits, cancel inside the same window, plus branded invoice and packing slip PDFs. Same features on every plan — Free (100 paid online Shopify orders lifetime), Starter ($99/year or $15/mo, 1,000 orders/calendar month), Unlimited ($499/year or $79/mo, uncapped). Caps only pause edits and PDFs; nothing auto-charges past your plan. POS orders do not count.

v1 does not pitch quantity changes, add/remove lines, or variant swaps. If you need a full cart-rebuild editor, other App Store tools cover that broader surface. BeforeShip is for merchants who want the high-intent address/cancel path plus documents that stay truthful after the change.

Ops checklist for fewer wrong-address labels

  1. Set an edit window that matches how fast you usually pack (many stores start near the 2-hour default).
  2. Train the warehouse that held orders are not ready to pack until the hold clears.
  3. Use the regenerated packing slip after any address change — do not reprint an old PDF from chat history.
  4. Point support macros to “use the edit link while the window is open” instead of collecting addresses over email.

FAQ

Can shoppers edit after packing starts?

No. Once packing starts — or the merchant window ends — BeforeShip locks edits so the warehouse is not chasing a moving address.

Does the invoice number change after an address edit?

No. The branded invoice PDF regenerates with the new shipping details, but the invoice number stays the same.
